How this started

Imaging software for MRI and CT studies of blood vessels: curved-MPR reconstruction and related tools that let a radiologist follow a vessel and read it properly, rather than fighting the geometry of a straight slice.

Challenge

Vessels don't run in straight lines, so a standard axial/coronal/sagittal view fights the anatomy. Reading them well needs reconstruction that follows the vessel — accurately, and fast enough to be practical on large MRI/CT volumes.

Approach

We built curved-MPR reconstruction and the supporting tools for MRI/CT vascular studies, so the software straightens the path of a vessel into something a radiologist can measure and assess directly — the right view for the anatomy, not a compromise.

Follow the vessel, not the slice

Blood vessels curve; a straight axial slice cuts across them at awkward angles and hides what matters. Curved MPR reconstructs along the path of the vessel, so a radiologist can follow it and measure it directly — the right view for the anatomy instead of a compromise imposed by geometry.

The challenge is doing that accurately and fast enough to be practical on large MRI and CT volumes, where the data is heavy and the tolerance for error is low.

Why it matters

The wrong view doesn't just look worse — it hides findings. Curved MPR gives vascular anatomy a view it can actually be read in.
